How a ASOS discount code works
ASOS has a 'Promo/Student code' box at checkout. Enter the code exactly as given, without spaces, and select 'Apply Code'; the discount and new total show straight away. The rules are strict: one promo code per order, including codes for free delivery, and a code cannot be added once the order has been placed. Codes do not work on items sold by ASOS Brand Partners, on delivery charges, on gift vouchers or on ASOS Premier, and many codes are locked to the email address they were sent to.
New customers often see a first-order offer in the site banner. At the time of writing it combined a percentage off with free Next Day Delivery for shoppers who opt in to marketing emails, capped at a pre-discount spend of £500, and it could not be combined with other codes or used on Brand Partner items. Offers like this change, so read the conditions next to the banner before you rely on it.
Students get 10% off with an ASOS account after verifying through SheerID; UniDAYS, Student Beans and TOTUM members can use their own codes in the same box. The loyalty scheme ASOS.WORLD is free to join and gives a birthday discount of 20% (25% at the top tier), 24-hour early access to new drops, and early access to sale and members-only sales once you spend £350 or more in a year with a return rate under 70%.
ASOS runs sales and promotions often, with a large Sale section, Black Friday deals and price-led edits such as sale under £10 or bestsellers under £40. Watch the promo conditions on returns: if returning an item takes your order below a code's threshold, ASOS may adjust or withhold part of the refund. Items bought from Brand Partners are also excluded from cashback schemes.
About ASOS
ASOS started in 2000 as As Seen On Screen, a site that sold copies of clothes worn by people on television and in films. The name shrank to four letters, the model changed completely, and the company became one of the best-known online fashion retailers in Britain. It is still run from Greater London House on Hampstead Road in Camden. The seller on most UK orders is ASOS.com Limited, registered in England and Wales under company number 03584121. A sister company, ASOS Payments, sits in the chain whenever you buy an item marked as sold by an ASOS Brand Partner, and that split matters later for discounts, delivery and returns. Prices on the UK site are in pounds with VAT included.
What sets ASOS apart is the mix. Its own labels carry a large part of the catalogue: ASOS DESIGN for everyday clothes and basics, ASOS EDITION for occasion wear, ASOS LUXE for dressier pieces, COLLUSION for a younger streetwear crowd, Reclaimed Vintage for vintage-inspired styles and 4505 for gym kit. Around them sit branded ranges from Nike, adidas, New Balance, Mango, Stradivarius, Gina Tricot, Barbour, Carhartt WIP, Polo Ralph Lauren and many more. At the time of writing the women's new-in clothing page alone listed more than 4,300 styles, and the ASOS DESIGN men's page more than 9,600.
Topshop and Topman have a history with ASOS. The company bought them, together with Miss Selfridge, from the collapsed Arcadia Group in 2021, and in 2024 sold a 75% stake in Topshop and Topman to Heartland, the investment company of one of its main shareholders. The brands still have their own section on asos.com, including the Topshop by Cara Delevingne collection, so if you still remember Topshop from the high street, this is one of the main places to find it online. Miss Selfridge also remains in the ASOS brand list.
The range goes beyond clothes. Face + Body covers makeup, skincare and fragrance from MAC, Charlotte Tilbury, The Ordinary, Beauty of Joseon and others, with a Korean and Japanese beauty edit. There are fit ranges for Curve and Plus Size, Petite, Tall, Maternity, Fuller Bust and adaptive styles, and a modest fashion edit. A Vintage section gathers independent sellers, and a Dress Rental link sends you to Hirestreet if you only need something for one event. Items marked as shipped from Brand Partners come directly from those brands rather than from the ASOS warehouse.
Prices start low. At the time of writing an ASOS DESIGN Essentials oversized T-shirt cost £10, a two-pack of muscle-fit tees £14, a regular-fit smart shirt £20 and faux leather derby shoes £32, while a COLLUSION oversized blazer was £39.99 and ASOS LUXE boucle co-ord pieces ran to £85 and £110. Branded items cost what the brand charges, so a Lauren by Ralph Lauren cardigan sat at £200. You can pay by card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Klarna or Clearpay, and ASOS also has its own credit card issued by Capital One.
On reputation the picture is blunt. The claimed Trustpilot profile for www.asos.com carried a TrustScore of 1.6 out of 5 from about 192,000 reviews at the time of writing. The overall mix is split, with roughly 63% five-star and 28% one-star reviews, but recent reviews are heavily negative, and that recent trend pulls the score down. Complaints centre on chat-only customer service that feels automated, refund delays, wrong or missing items, and returns deductions. Trustpilot showed that ASOS had not replied to negative reviews. No Feefo profile for ASOS turned up. The shop is large and legitimate; the risk lies in how problems get sorted.
Why shop at ASOS?
- Own labels plus hundreds of brands — Most fashion sites sell either their own label or other people's. ASOS does both in one basket: ASOS DESIGN basics from £10, COLLUSION, Reclaimed Vintage and ASOS LUXE next to Nike, New Balance, Mango and Barbour. You can build an outfit across price levels and pay one delivery fee, even when items come from different warehouses.
- Fit ranges most shops skip — Curve and Plus Size, Petite, Tall, Maternity, Fuller Bust and adaptive styles each have their own section rather than a few token pieces. The men's side has Plus Size and Tall too. If standard sizing rarely works for you, this depth is one of the strongest reasons to shop here.
- Next day delivery until late — Next Day Delivery costs £5.95 and runs seven days a week to most of the UK, with the cut-off shown at checkout. In London and the M25 area, ASOS Instant Evening delivers same-day between 6pm and 10pm if you order by 10am, and Instant AM brings a parcel by noon the next morning, both for £7.95.
- Premier for £9.95 a year — ASOS Premier gives unlimited Next Day and Nominated Day Delivery on orders of £15 or more after discounts, and free Standard Delivery on everything else, for £9.95 a year. At £5.95 per next-day order it pays for itself on the second order. It renews automatically after a year unless you cancel.
- Plenty of ways to collect — Click and Collect goes to Royal Mail, Evri ParcelShops and InPost lockers. Standard collection costs £4.50 or is free over £40, and Next Day Click and Collect costs £5.95. Returns can go back through Post Offices or InPost lockers and shops, which ASOS says number more than 7,000, using a QR code instead of a printed label.
- Topshop and Topman in one place — Since the Arcadia collapse, Topshop and Topman have had no high street chain of their own, and asos.com remains one of their main online homes. The Topshop section includes the Topshop by Cara Delevingne collection, and Miss Selfridge still sits in the brand list too.
- Vintage, beauty and rental — Beyond new clothing, ASOS offers a Vintage section from independent sellers, a large Face + Body department with Korean and Japanese beauty, and a Dress Rental link to Hirestreet for one-off occasions. That makes it a practical first stop when you are shopping for several things at once.

More money-saving tips for ASOS
- Keep your return rate below 70% — ASOS tracks the value you return against what you spend over 12 months. At 70% or more with three or more orders, it may keep £3.95 per returned parcel unless you keep more than £40 of the order, and you lose access to Premier. At 80% with five orders, a £3.95 handling fee is added to orders as well. Your rate is shown in My Account.
- Do not check out as a guest — Guest checkout exists, but it costs you. Every guest return has £3.95 deducted from the refund, exchanges are not available, student and ASOS.WORLD discounts do not apply, and gift vouchers cannot be redeemed. If you already have an account under that email address, you have to sign in anyway.
- Check who sells the item — Items marked as sold and shipped by an ASOS Brand Partner come from that brand, not from ASOS. They cannot go on Next Day Delivery or Click and Collect, promo and student codes do not apply, and returns follow the partner's own instructions, usually with a label in the parcel. A different size of the same product can even carry a different price.
- Try on carefully — All returns are inspected. Try clothes on as you would in a shop, without make-up, perfume or deodorant, and try shoes on carpet. Keep tags, security devices and shoe boxes. Opened beauty products, underwear and swimwear with a broken hygiene seal, and pierced jewellery with a broken seal cannot be returned.
- Use size exchange when it appears — If you choose 'too big' or 'too small' as your return reason on the website or iOS app, ASOS may offer a size or colour exchange if stock allows. You then have 14 days from the exchange request to send the original back, or you are charged for the replacement. Swimwear, underwear and Brand Partner items are excluded.
- Report problems quickly — A missing item from a delivered order must be reported within 14 days of delivery, and a parcel that never arrived within 30 days of its expected date. Keep proof of postage for every return. Given how many reviewers struggle with chat support, screenshots of the order and the parcel can save a lot of back and forth.
- Count your Premier maths — Premier makes sense if you order next day twice a year or more, or often place small orders under £40. It renews automatically at £9.95, so set a reminder if you only wanted it for one busy season. Instant AM and Instant Evening are not included.

How much does delivery cost in the UK?
Standard Delivery is £4.50, or free on orders over £40, and takes two to four working days. Next Day and Nominated Day Delivery cost £5.95. ASOS Instant AM and Instant Evening cost £7.95 each and are limited to certain postcodes. Outer areas such as the Highlands, islands and Northern Ireland have longer timescales on some services.
What is ASOS Premier?
It is a £9.95 yearly subscription giving unlimited Next Day and Nominated Day Delivery on orders of £15 or more after discounts, plus free Standard Delivery on everything else. It renews automatically after the first year unless you cancel. Customers with a return rate above 70% across three or more orders cannot buy or renew it.
Are returns free?
For account holders, UK returns are free within 28 days of delivery, via Royal Mail Post Offices or InPost lockers and shops with a QR code. Guest orders have £3.95 deducted from the refund. Customers with a very high return rate may also have £3.95 kept per parcel under the fair use policy.
How long does a refund take?
ASOS says a returned parcel can take up to 10 calendar days to reach its Doncaster warehouse and be processed, and the refund can then take up to 10 working days to show, depending on your bank. If you paid with Klarna or Clearpay, the returned amount is adjusted against your instalments.
What is the ASOS fair use policy?
It targets people who return most of what they order. Over 12 months, a return rate of 70% or more with three or more orders can lead to £3.95 being kept per returned parcel, unless you keep more than £40 of the order. How do promo codes work at ASOS?
